SUBJECT:
A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of David McCabe as Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Aurora, Illinois.

PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval for the appointment of David McCabe to the position of Deputy Fire Chief of the Aurora Fire Department.

BACKGROUND:
Due to the retirement of John Gilbert, a vacancy exists for the position of Deputy Fire Chief.

DISCUSSION:
After a thorough assessment and consideration of his education, skills and experience, David McCabe was selected for the position. David has over 23 years of experience in the fire science field with progressive career progression to the position of Battalion Chief. He has been with the City of Aurora since March 3, 1997. David has a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University. He has successfully functioned as an Assistant Fire Chief since 2018 and has demonstrated the ability to manage the Fire Department assigned personnel effectively.

David will also assume the responsibilities of the Deputy Fire Chief position upon the retirement of the incumbent. The effective date for this appointment will be May 9, 2020.
