A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of David McCabe as Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Aurora, Illinois.
PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval for the appointment of David McCabe to the position of Deputy Fire Chief of the Aurora Fire Department.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the retirement of John Gilbert, a vacancy exists for the position of Deputy Fire Chief.
DISCUSSION:
After a thorough assessment and consideration of his education, skills and experience, David McCabe was selected for the position. David has over 23 years of experience in the fire science field with progressive career progression to the position of Battalion Chief. He has been with the City of Aurora since March 3, 1997. David has a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University. He has successfully functioned as an Assistant Fire Chief since 2018 and has demonstrated the ability to manage the Fire Department assigned personnel effectively.
David will also assume the responsibilities of the Deputy Fire Chief position upon the retirement of the incumbent. The effective date for this appointment will be May 9, 2020.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a vacancy exists in the position of Deputy Fire Chief by reason of the retirement of the current Deputy Chief; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor finds and determines that David McCabe meets and exceeds all of the necessary qualifications and requisite skills and experience to perform the job requirements of the position; and
WHEREAS, after giving due regard and consideration, the Mayor recommends that David McCabe be appointed Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Aurora, Illinois effective May 9, 2020
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that David McCabe is hereby appointed Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Aurora, Illinois, effective May 9, 2020.
