A Resolution appointing three inaugural members for a two-year term to the Aurora Civilian Review Board.
DISCUSSION:
The Civilian Review Board (CRB) was established by Mayor Richard C. Irvin to review, evaluate, and make recommendations concerning the police department's activities and efforts in promoting and achieving equity with respect to racial, gender, and cultural diversity in officer recruitment and training. The board will review and evaluate the administration and consistency in the imposition of discipline within the department with respect to civilian complaints.
The Civilian Review Board will consist of 9 board members, if the three inaugural member appointments are approved the board will have a full roster.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the appointment of the three inaugural members to the Aurora Civilian Board for a two-year term.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, the Civilian Review Board shall consist of a total of 9 board members; and
WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that said candidates be appointed.
