SUBJECT:
A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Keith Cross as Deputy Chief of Police for the City of Aurora, Illinois.
PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval for the appointment of Keith Cross to the position of Deputy Chief of the Aurora Police Department.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the retirement of Keefe Jackson, a vacancy exists for the position of Deputy Chief of Police.
DISCUSSION:
After a thorough assessment and consideration of his education, skills and experience, Keith Cross has been selected for the position. Keith has over 26 years of experience the law enforcement field with progressive career progression to the position of Police Commander. He began his career with the City of Aurora April 4, 1994. Keith has a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Bemidji State University and is a recent graduate of the FBI National Academy. He has successfully functioned as a Police Commander since 2016 and has demonstrated the ability to manage the Police Department in the absence of both the Chief and Deputy Chief of Police effectively.
Keith will also assume the responsibilities of the Deputy Chief position upon the retirement of the incumbent. The effective date for the appointment will be April 28, 2020.
