SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.
PURPOSE:
To establish the number of Class C, Package Liquor licenses at 40.
BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.
DISCUSSION:
Aurora Spirit & Wine, LLC, d/b/a Aurora Spirit & Wine, is purchasing the current business, AJ's Liquor at 1669 Montgomery Rd. #1 Aurora 60504. Aurora Spirit & Wine, LLC has submitted a liquor license application for a Class C Package Liquor license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor in original packages for consumption off the premises only. The existing business, AJ's Liquor has maintained a Class C liquor license for several years.
Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would maintain the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owners to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be considered by the City Council at its meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
