DATE: 7/23/19

SUBJECT:
To purchase a John Deere 710L Backhoe Loader for the Water and Sewer Maintenance Division.

PURPOSE:
The Water and Sewer Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining approximately 760 miles of water main and 1200 miles of sewers. The purchase of the above referenced backhoe is needed in order to continue providing reliable service to the City's water and sewer rate payers.

BACKGROUND:
The subject backhoe was competitively bid through the Sourcewell Cooperative Contract. According to the Sourcewell contract #032515-JDC, the total cost for the backhoe through Westside Tractor Sales of Naperville Illinois is $169,457.57. This price includes the Sourcewell Contract discount of $117, 703.52. The quote also includes a trade in allowance of $11,000.00 for one of our existing backhoes which has exceeded its useful life.

Since this is from a cooperative program, local preference does not apply.

DISCUSSION:
A 2019 decision package was approved for $185,000.00 for this purchase in account 510-4063-511.74-99 within the Water and Sewer Fund.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
This purchase is required in order to perform necessary repairs to the City's water and sewer infrastructure.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please consider approval of the attached resolution.
