SUBJECT:
A Resolution appointing Glenda Blakemore and Stephanie Mack and reappointing Toshia Moss, Kimberly Harris, Cynthia Miller, Deb Goss-Johnson, Marc Dale Jr. and Adrienne Coleman to the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board.

DISCUSSION:
The Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board (AAHAB) is a non-partisan, community-based, fifteen (15) member advisory board that supports and participates in activities that promote a deeper understanding of the African American community. In addition to supporting community-wide events in Aurora, the AAHAB also hosts a yearly scholarship dinner.

There are currently vacancies and expirations on the board.

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council approve the proposed appointments and reappointments to the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, there are currently vacancies on the Aurora African American Heritage Advisory Board; and

WHEREAS, it is the Mayor's desire that the recommended candidates be appointed and reappointed to said board.
