SUBJECT:

Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:

To establish the number of Class C - Package Liquor license for the number of Class C licenses at 41.

BACKGROUND:

This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:

Brahm Inc., dba Yorkshire Liquors has been located at 4300 E. New York St. for three years. The new owner of Yorkshire Plaza, Pacifica Square, has requested the business to relocate to 4302 E. New York St., Unit 110. The change in location requires an application for a new license. The business is not undergoing any other changes at this time, ownership will remain the same.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the licenses by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business representatives to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met. The license will not be issued until all documents regarding the approved occupancy by the City of Aurora.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the August 20, 2019 meeting of the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
