The Aurora Veterans Advisory Council is requesting permission to stage the annual 5K Fun Run, Walk, Woof and Roll on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

PURPOSE:

AVAC supports Aurora veterans in need. 

 

BACKGROUND:

This is the third year for this event which is part "Vets Week" which honors veterans through various activities.  Last year 125 participated in the event.  The run will be held once again at Phillips Park utilizing one of the city approved routes.

 

DISCUSSION:

AVAC is expecting 250 people to participate and 30 staff/volunteers to assist this year.  The event will be cancelled if weather conditions are hazardous.  AVAC is responsible for all costs associated with this event. 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services are requested from Parks for use of Phillips Park streets, garbage bins, parking lots and golf carts. Also, from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Division. 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
