SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:
To establish the number of Class C - Packaged Liquor License for the number of Class C licenses at 42.

BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:
Shree Balchandra LLC., d/b/a Aj's Liquorland, to be located at 2150 W Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL 60506, has submitted a liquor license application for a Class C license for the purpose of selling to the general public alcoholic liquor in original packages only, for consumption off the premises where sold. The applicant is opening this new location in Aurora. The applicant currently operates one (1) other similar locations in Aurora, IL.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the licenses by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business representatives to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met. The license will not be issued until all documents regarding the approved occupancy by the City of Aurora and food service license by DuPage County is received by the City.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the May 23, 2017 meeting of the Committee of the Whole for consideration.
