PURPOSE:

The event aims to raise community awareness to the opioid use disorder.

BACKGROUND:

This is a first time event proposal for Aurora and has not been in the Aurora community in the past.

DISCUSSION:

The bike rides begin and end in Naperville, with different mile routes that can take participants through the cities of Aurora Bolingbrook, and Woodridge.  The sponsor organization is expecting 100-300 people to participate and 30 staff/volunteers to help with this first time one day proposed bicycling event.  Staff/volunteers will be monitoring different parts of the routes and will be at specific intersections along the routes. The sponsor has been made aware that the City of Aurora is only considering those parts of the proposed event that come under its jurisdiction and that the sponsor organization will need to get separate approval from other cities and or organizations for those parts of the route that fall under their jursidictions.  The sponsor organization is responsible for all costs associated with holding this proposed event.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

No City services have been requested and the Aurora Police Department has communicated to the sponsor organization that the participants in this proposed event will need to abide by and follow all bicycle/pedestrian rules, laws, safety regulations, etc. including while on the road, at intersections, and when crossing, while riding through the City of Aurora.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for review/approval.
