SUBJECT:title

128-130 N. Farnsworth Av. - Sump Pump Connection Agreement:

body

PURPOSE:

Request the approval for the expenditure of BGI funds in a not-to-exceed amount of $5000 for the installation of a sump pump connection to the public storm sewer.

BACKGROUND:

This works stems from a drainage complaint by Mr. Alfredo Castil, residing at 130 N. Farnsworth.

On January 10, 2017 the Engineering Division met with Mr. Castil to discuss his situation.

It turns out that his sump pump runs very frequently and the discharge runs overland and pools on the public sidewalk.  Mr. Castil indicated that he had been cited several times for causing an unsafe condition but was offered no suggestions as to how he could remedy the situation.

We suggested that he and his neighbor install a common sump pump collection line and connect it to the existing storm sewer.  We also indicated that the City may be able to contribute by paying for the connection in the public right-of-way.

DISCUSSION:

In connection with work by the residents (Private Property Work) to be verified and approved by Engineering, Engineering is requesting the approval of expenditures, not to exceed, $5,000.00 to, in combination with the resident's contractor or by separate contracted work, (which ever amount is found to be less) install a sump collection line from the west curb-line of N Farnsworth Av to the intersection of the common property line and the west right-of-way line of Farnsworth Av. This work is considered to be the public portion of the work and the requested funds are restricted to cover all materials, labor and restoration work necessary to complete said public work.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

City would move forward with this work, only upon the evidence of contract by the residents to install said private property work
