WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, Alderman and  Mayor Pro Tem Robert J. O’Connor was appointed Acting Mayor for the City of Aurora on November 1, 2016, to serve in said role until a new mayor is elected and sworn into office in 2017, thereby creating a vacancy in the position of Mayor Pro Tem; and

 

WHEREAS-, pursuant to Chapter 2, Section 2-39 of the Aurora Code of Ordinances, the City Council has determined that Alderman Hart-Burns meets the qualifications to act as Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Aurora.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, that Alderman Hart-Burns is hereby appointed Mayor Pro Tem, and shall serve in this capacity in accordance with Chapter 2, Section 2-39 of the Aurora Code of Ordinances.
