American Cancer Society Bark for Life Walk With Dogs Around Mastodon Lake and Island at Phillips Park, Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9:00am to 12:00pm.

body

PURPOSE:

The American Cancer Society is requesting permission to hold a proposed relay walk with dogs around Mastodon Lake and Island at Phillips Park and cancer fundraiser.

BACKGROUND:

The American Cancer Society held the event in 2014 after receiving permission by the City.  In 2015, although the event had not been approved by the City, staff was made aware that some form of the activity was at the park.  There has been subsequent discussion by staff with event organizers and this year the process was followed to get the proposed event ready for review for approval by the City.

DISCUSSION:

The sponsoring organization is responsible for making arrangements to reserve the west pavilion at Phillips Park, adhering to and following all park guidelines and rules, and for all costs associated with holding this proposed event.  The event organizers are expecting 50 people to participate and 20 staff/volunteers to help.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services will be needed from the Parks & Recreation Division for use of the trail around Mastodon Lake and Island, the west pavilion, trash cans, and electric at the pavilion.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
