body

PURPOSE:

This event will bring Boy Scout groups to downtown Aurora to launch their rockets and experience SciTech.

BACKGROUND:

This is a first time event. The Boy Scouts of America approached SciTech to host this event in downtown Aurora.

DISCUSSION:

The scout leaders have been in contact with the Fire Marshal's Office to work out details of the launch and insure safety.  The rockets are approximately the size of an adult thumb.  Several photos are attached.  A Certificate of Insurance has been received from SciTech.

SciTech staff will be responsible for "No Parking" signage along the event site as well as placement and removal of the barricades.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

City services requested:

Street Department to drop off 8 class 1 barricades in front of SciTech on Friday, September 30th and pick up on Monday, October 3rd.  Two of the barricades to have "Road Closed" signage attached.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review.
