SUBJECT:

Requesting approval for Batavia Container Inc. to have a Music Festival as part of their 2016 Haunts for Hope event to be held at the Basement of the Dead, 42 W New York Street on September 24th, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

 

PURPOSE:

Batavia Container Inc., located at 1400 Paramont Parkway, Batavia, IL. Will be holding their Haunts for Hope event on Saturday, September 24th, 2016 in the Tivoli Plaza. As part of this event, Batavia Container Inc. would like to have live musical entertainment, which requires City Council approval prior to the issuance of a permit. The proposed entertainment includes Haunted House, Food/Beverage, Music (DJ) Raffle and Pumkin Pickup.

 

BACKGROUND:

This is a first time event for Batavia Container Inc. here in Aurora.  Their purpose for having this event is to raise funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

 

DISCUSSION:

Our office has received a completed application for this event and an event layout.  The organizers are working closely with both Ballydoyle and Basement of the Dead.  Ballydoyle will assist with food and beverage and the Basement of the Dead will give private tours of the facility.

The event will take place in Tivoli Plaza, 42 W New York Street. The proposed hours of operation for the Event are from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the proposed hours for music and live entertainment being from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24th, 2016

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

It is my recommendation that this item be referred to the Government Operations Committee for their next meeting on August 23, 2016. This will ensure review and passage by the City Council prior to their event.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

 

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

 

WHEREAS, Batavia Container Inc. will be holding their Haunts for Hope event to be held In the Tivoli Plaza, located at 42 W New York Street on Saturday, September 24th, 2016 and has applied for a Music Festival permit with music being allowed Saturday, September 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; and

 

WHEREAS, the organizers of this event have filed all appropriate documentation and paid all applicable fees required for the issuance of said permit.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that a Music Festival permit be issued to Batavia Container Inc., 1400 Paramont Parkway, Batavia, IL for Saturday, September 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. to be held at the Tivoli Plaza, located at 42 W New York Street.
