SUBJECT:
A Resolution Creating a Special Committee on Aldermanic Compensation.
PURPOSE:
The purpose is to create a Special Committee on Aldermanic Compensation to begin reviewing the Aldermanic Compensation beginning May 1, 2019.
BACKGROUND:
Every four years the Council evaluates the salaries of Elected Officials in the city. Input is considered from various sources including the Chambers and other comparable cities and towns.
DISCUSSION:
Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns, Rick Mervine and Carl Franco shall serve as members of this Special Committee on Aldermanic Compensation of the City Council.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Approve the Resolution.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Section 2-59(a) entitled "Salary" of the Aurora Code of Ordinances provides that "Compensation recommendations for the future shall be reviewed by the Council and completed no later than August 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to establish a Special Committee of the Council to ascertain any such compensation recommendations for beginning May 1, 2019 and thereafter in compliance with law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: that the Special Committee on Aldermanic Compensation is hereby created, which Committee shall automatically be dissolve...
