SUBJECT:
Resolution Establishing the Maximum Number of City of Aurora Liquor Licenses by Class.

PURPOSE:
To increase the number of Class Q - Craft Winery for the total maximum number of Class Q as 1.

BACKGROUND:
This request is presented in accordance with the 2011 amendment to the City's Liquor Ordinance, specifically Section 6-9(a), which charges the City Council with the authority to determine the number of licenses available in each classification.

DISCUSSION:
The Aspen Lane Wine Company, LLC d/b/a Aspen Lane Winery, located at 3682 Prairie Lake Court, Aurora, Illinois, 60504 submitted a liquor license application regarding a Class Q license for the purpose of on-site production and storage of wine in quantities not to exceed fifty thousand (50,000) gallons per year and the sale of such wine for consumption off-premises and on-premises.

The Aspen Lane Winery is a new business to the City of Aurora, however, the owner is a resident of Aurora.

Attached is the application submitted for your consideration. If approved, this resolution would increase the number of allowable liquor licenses as indicated in the accompanying Exhibit A to allow for the issuance of the license by the Commissioner. City staff has been working with the business owner to ensure that all requirements for a liquor license, as set forth in Chapter 6 of the City's Code of Ordinances, are met.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
The proposed resolution presents an opportunity to further the City of Aurora's economic development.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I am recommending that this resolution be referred to the Government Operations Committee for consideration at its meeting to be held on June 14, 2015.
