SUBJECT:
Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of One (1) Stryker Power Cot and Eight (8) Power Load Systems from Stryker Corporation for the Aurora Fire Department in the amount of $243,761.00

PURPOSE:
To purchase one (1) Stryker Power Cot and Eight (8) Stryker Power Load Systems to be installed in the ambulances of the Aurora Fire Department for a cost of $243,761.00.

BACKGROUND:
The Aurora Fire Department wishes to equip all of its ambulances with Stryker power cots and power load systems. The members of the Aurora Fire Department have approved using Foreign Fire Tax funds for the purchase.

Five existing ambulances are equipped with this brand of power cot already, therefore only one cot is to be purchased. New ambulances are equipped with power cots. Eight load systems are to be installed in the existing ambulances.

The Aurora Fire Department has standardized its fleet using the Stryker power cot and other manufacturer cots will not fit into the power load system or existing cot fasteners. Stryker Corporation is the sole source vendor for the Power Load system that is compatible with its power cot. A Stryker approved contractor will perform the installation of the Power Load System.

DISCUSSION:
The Power Load system is anticipated to reduce the potential for injury while loading a patient into the ambulance. The Load system handles both the weight of the cot and the patient while loading and unloading the patient. Significant costs can arise from back injuries due to lost time and workman's compensation expenses.

Stryker Corporation does not have an outstanding debt with the City of Aurora.

Funds will be available in the 2016 COA budget in account # 219-3033-422.65-26 for this purchase. A budget amendment and transfer are pending to provide the funds for this project.
