body

PURPOSE:

The parade is part of the annual Puerto Rican Heritage Festival now in its 45th year.  The event celebrates Puerto Rican Heritage in the City of Aurora and surrounding communities.

BACKGROUND:

The event is coordinated by the APRCC with assistance from the City's Special Event division. The route requested is the Benton/Broadway/Downer route with staging on River Street. This parade route mirrors that of the City's Memorial Day parade.

DISCUSSION:

The organizers will submit the parade line-up a week before the event to assure all City services are covered. A Certificate of Insurance has been provided and is included with the attached Special Event Permit Application.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Assistance from the following City departments is requested: Police, Streets, MVPS, Electrical, Downtown Maintenance, Special Events and possibly Water and Sewer (if horse units are participating). This is to facilitate street closures and provide for public safety. A detailed City services request is attached.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
