SUBJECT:title

A Parking Study on N. Root Street in the 700 Block.  Ward 1, Alderman Bohman.

body

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study on N. Root Street in the 700 Block to determine need for parking restrictions.

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 142359 expressing concern about access of Emergency Responders in the N. Root Street dead-end for 767 and 763 residents.

DISCUSSION:

The intersection of N. Root Street and Zengele Avenue has Yellow curb and a STOP sign on Zengele Avenue approaching N. Root Street.  The portion of N. Root Street to the north of Zengele Avenue has two residential homes: 767 and 763 N. Root Street.  This roadway is only 23-ft wide, well below the city standards.  The roadway at this time does not have any parking restrictions; when vehicles park on both sides.  The two residences both have single-lane drive approaches, with both driveways running behind the homes to garages.   Parking on the east side of the roadway is almost entirely prevented by the two drive approaches.  There are no approaches on the west side.  The dead-end has no turn around loop, just a box ending.  Installing NO PARKING signage on the east side would improve access.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Operations would be responsible for installing NO PARKING signage.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends installing NO PARKING signage on the east side of N. Root Street north of Zengele Avenue.
