SUBJECT:
Request authority to purchase fourteen Panasonic Toughpad computers from CDS Office Technologies in the amount of $50,792.00 for the Fire Department.

PURPOSE:
The fire department is in need of 14 additional vehicle laptops for the creation of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) testing and training lab. This lab is required to be equipped with the same model laptop utilized by fire department vehicles.

BACKGROUND:
Fire department vehicle laptops were scheduled for replacement in 2017 and 2018. However, purchase of a new public safety CAD system has moved the need forward. This purchase will complete replacement of half of the fleet, and the other half will be purchased in 2017.

As a way of expediting the purchase MIS has already ordered six of the computers. Approval of this request will allow MIS to purchase the final eight.

DISCUSSION:
The plan for creation of a test lab is to purchase 14 Panasonic Toughpad computers as soon as possible. This will allow MIS to create a lab configured with new model Toughbooks and currently deployed models. It will also allow for having both models deployed live in the field.

The purchase will be made out of MIS' computer account 101-1232-419.64-12, which will lower the number of new desktop PCs deployed in 2016. There is Decision Package submitted to replace the other half of fire department vehicle laptops in 2017.

There are funds available in account 101-1232-419.64-12.

This purchase is off of State of Illinois Master Contract #CMS5848520.

A copy of a per unit quote and the state contract are attached.

The Finance Department has been notified to ensure CDS does not have outstanding debt with the City.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Impact on the public is positive, as rescue vehicles will be equipped with updated computer equipment. There will be a positive impact on...
