SUBJECT:title
The American Diabetes Association is requesting permission to stage Tour de Cure on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 5:00 am to 4:00 pm.
body
PURPOSE:
This is a bike ride, running and walking event to raise funds for diabetes research, advocacy, education, and programs.
BACKGROUND:
The Tour de Cure has been staged in Aurora for several years, moving from the Roundhouse to RiverEdge Park as the event grew. This started as a bike event only and has expanded to include a 5K walk and race.
DISCUSSION:
The organizers have consulted with APD Traffic on the addition of the 5K, utilizing the downtown (Color Vibe) route. The ADA has contracted with Road Safe for street barricades throughout the route.
Approximately 1,500 people are expected to participate. The event will begin and end at RiverEdge Park. A portion of the ATC parking lot is being rented for participant parking.
Maps for the 100 mile, 65 mile, 30 mile and 12 mile bike rides and downtown 5K as well as the COI are included as attachments.
The Organizers are responsible for all costs associated with holding this event.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City Services will be needed from the APD Traffic Division. ATC staff will determine what portion of the lot will be allocated.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
