A Parking Study for 982 Autumn Lane, Ward 1, Alderman Llamas.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for 982 Autumn Lane, to determine need for an on-street, handicap parking space.
BACKGROUND:
Received handicap parking application, resident having difficultly parking on-street near 982 Autumn Lane. Resident recently contacted Alderman Bohman and completed an on-street handicap parking application.
DISCUSSION:
Staff recently discussed request with the resident/owner of 982 Autumn Lane who stated a need for the on-street handicap parking space in front of the townhome, due to physical challenges but does not utilize a wheelchair. Resident owns two vehicles and townhome has one side of a two vehicle wide driveway. Resident's garage is full and cannot currently accommodate a vehicle. The driveway would provide off-street parking closer to the front door of the townhome than the street. Staff field checked location and found no legal place to park, on-street, in front of the townhome, due to the City's mailbox ordinance, which requires vehicles to park a minimum of 10 feet away from a mailbox and ordinance to park a minimum of 5 feet from a driveway.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
None
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends resident provide garage access for one of the two owned vehicles, which would provide shortest distance from parked vehicle, in driveway, to front door of townhome, since there is no legal on-street parking space available near 982 Autumn Lane.
