SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for Pleasure Court. Ward 4, Alderman Donnell
body
PURPOSE:
To consider converting one side of N. Pleasure Court into a NO PARKING ANY TIME.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident called Alderman Donnell expressing concern that emergency vehicles could not navigate N. Pleasure Court when vehicles are parked on both sides of the roadway.
DISCUSSION:
The City has a report that an ambulance on a medical emergency was forced to turn back because it could not navigate between vehicles parked on both sides of Pleasure Court. The ambulance was forced to go around the block to the second of two entrances to Pleasure Court. The newly re-curbed and paved roadway is 24.5-ft wide. A normal lane width in normal traffic is about 12-ft wide. Two parked cars on both sides of the roadway would leave less than 9 or 10-ft for two-way traffic to pass. By City ordinance a width of 18-feet must be available if parking is allowed on both sides of roadway.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
All of Pleasure loop should signed for NO PARKING ANY TIME on north and west sides of roadway through the loop. Replace existing time restricted signage.
