The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board is requesting approval to stage El Día de los Niños at the Lincoln and Spring parking lot on Saturday, April 26th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

PURPOSE:
The AHHAB has conducted El Día de los Niños for the past 13 years. The event is well attended by the community and supported by the school districts.  All revenue generated is used for the scholarships awarded at the annual Community Breakfast in January. The AHHAB promotes community, heritage, history and pride and El Día de los Niños is a reflection of the board's mission.
 
BACKGROUND:
There have been no issues with the event in the past.
 
DISCUSSION:
The event is budgeted in account number 215-1341-450.50-57.  School districts 129 and 131 are once again partnering with the board. The school districts bring a wealth of resources which result in significant cost savings to the one day event: teachers, volunteers, printing, entertainment and marketing.  The also distribute free books to children that attend the event.
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Assistance from the following City departments is necessary for this event: Police, Fire Prevention, Public Information, EMA, Streets, Special Events, Community Services, MVPS, Water & Sewer and Downtown Maintenance.
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be approved and forwarded to City Council.
