SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study for Plum Street and Palace Street intersection for possibility of four-way Stop signage. Ward 6, Alderman Saville
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the possibility of installing four-way Stop signage at the intersection of Plum Street and Palace Street.
BACKGROUND:
An ACR 76678 was submitted by a resident requesting a Traffic Study be performed for the intersection of Plum Street and Palace Street to determine the possibility of installing 4-Way Stop signage. Presently, there is a 2-Way Stop on Palace Street approaching Plum Street. A 4-Way Stop intersection exist one intersection to the East at Plum Street and Oak Avenue.
DISCUSSION:
Based on the traffic study, neither the traffic volumes nor crash history warrant the installation of an all way stop. Traffic volumes on all approaches are fairly equal at approximately 400 veh/day with the peak hour only twice exceeding 40 veh/hr on any of the approaches. The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control recommends approximately five times the shown peak hour volume before consideration of an all way stop. Coupled with adjacent stop controlled intersection staff cannot support this request.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact based on staff recommendation.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends denial.
