SUBJECT:
Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of One (1) 2015 Wheeled Coach, Ford F-450 Type I Ambulance for the Amount of $202,538.00 from Fire Service Inc.

PURPOSE:
To purchase one (1) 2015 Wheeled Coach, Ford F-450 Type I ambulance, from Fire Service Inc. to replace a 2006 ambulance that has reached the end of its service life as recommended by Equipment Services.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Aurora Equipment Services Department has provided AFD with an equipment replacement schedule to maintain safe, effective and dependable ambulances to provide the citizens of Aurora with a high level of Emergency Medical Services. This ambulance purchase will help maintain that high level of service and meet the equipment replacement schedule

DISCUSSION:
The Aurora Fire Department wishes to replace Medic RM 2 which is a 2006 ambulance that has exceeded its service life as recommended by Equipment Services.

Fire Service Inc. is the area dealer for the Wheeled Coach brand ambulance. The City of Aurora purchased one Wheeled Coach ambulance from Fire Service Inc. in 2013 from Bid Tabulation # 13-49.The City of Aurora bid document in section 2-4 (Contract Award) reserves the right to add additional units to this contract.

We request the ability to exercise this right and purchase an additional ambulance based on that language. Funds are available in the Capital Improvement "A" account # 340-3033-422.75-30 for this purchase.


IMPACT STATEMENT:
Providing a high level of Emergency Medical Service delivery requires a safe and dependable fleet of ambulances to meet this objective. Replacing an older ambulance with a new model, will reduce maintenance and repair costs and allow for new technology and space to continue to provide high quality service.
