SUBJECT:title
Requesting approval for Aurora Downtown to close Stolp Avenue between Downer and Galena for First Friday on August 4 and September 1, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
body
PURPOSE:
First Friday is a monthly art crawl and music showcase in downtown Aurora. Closing the street will create a more block party type feel which will include several food trucks and music at Millennium Plaza.
BACKGROUND:
This is an enhancement to First Friday which has been going on in Aurora since 2013.
DISCUSSION:
Closing the street allows for larger crowds without the added issue of having to deal with traffic and pedestrians mixing with one another.
There are no shows at the Paramount Theatre on either one of these dates as of the writing of this memo. They are aware of the possible street closure.
Aurora Downtown is working with the City Clerk's Office on allowing beer and wine on the closed portion of the street. Leland Legends would be provider and server.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City Services requested are:
Street Department: Barricades at both ends of Stolp
Electrical: Access to available power on the west side of Stolp and in the gazebo
Downtown Maintenance: Millennium Plaza to be clean
APD-Downtown officer to be present when available
Organizers will be responsible for notifying businesses and residents of the street closure and placing and removing "No Parking" signs along the street in the designated areas.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
