Requesting approval to stage the City of Aurora Farmers Markets to be held throughout the summer and fall of 2017.

PURPOSE:

The markets allow citizens convenient access to affordable locally produced, healthful, farm fresh food and the opportunity to develop face-to-face relationships with area farmers and artisans. 

 

BACKGROUND:

The Aurora Farmers Market is in its 105th year of continuous operation.  The market was designated as the oldest continuously operating Farmers Market in the State of Illinois by Governor Quinn in 2012 during its centennial year. 

 

DISCUSSION:

Expenditures for the market are appropriated in the Special Events budget, account number 101-1341-450.53-09 and grant expenditures through 101-1341-450.53-36.

 

The downtown Saturday market will be held at the Aurora Transportation Center, 233 N. Broadway, June 10 through October 21 from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm with a preview date of May 20 in conjunction with the Fox Valley Gardeners Plant Sale. 

 

AFM west will be held at West Aurora Plaza, 1901 W. Galena, Wednesdays July 12 through September 27 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. 

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Assistance from the following departments and divisions is requested: APD, Fire Prevention, Downtown Maintenance, Electrical, MVPS, Public Information, Water & Sewer, and Youth and Senior Services.  A detailed listing of services is attached. 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
