SUBJECT:title
A Traffic Study on Thornapple Way to Investigate Parking Concerns. Ward 7, Alderman Hart-Burns
body
PURPOSE:
To Determinine Appropriate Parking Regulations for Thornapple Way.
BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted an ACR Case ID 87746 and ACR Case ID 88625 expressing concern on traffic congestion on Thornapple Way caused by vehicles parking on both sides of the street, aggravated in the region of a greater-than-90-degree curve.
DISCUSSION:
Thornapple Way is a narrow street by city standards, measuring less than 27-ft. Parking on both sides of the roadway would inhibit two way traffic. Investigations revealed moderate parking demand. Fire hydrants are located on the inside of all the curves, although no vehicle was observed parking in front of one.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Funding will be required for Operations to paint the Fire Hydrant curb red per city standards and weather permitting.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends adding no signage for parking restrictions at this time, but if the HOA as a group requests it, we will reconsider restricting parking on one side of the roadway. We will recommend providing the fire hydrant in question with painted Red Curb per city standards.
