Communities in Schools is requesting traffic control assistance and street closure on Fourth Street from Downer to Benton to stage the annual Back to School Fair on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

PURPOSE:
This event provides school supplies and local health services to Aurora students in need.
BACKGROUND:
Communities in Schools has held this event at the First Presbyterian Church Harkness Center for the past 21 years. Approximately 200 volunteers manage the event which draws participation from more the 30 social service agencies. The Back to School Fair provides school supplies to approximately 1,000 families, including immunizations, school physicals and dental screenings. Parents are provided information on additional social services available to them. The event is scheduled to take place from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. There will also be game stations for children and a mobile library.
DISCUSSION:
With the number of attendees CIS is requesting police officers to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
A Certificate of Insurance has been received.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
APD-Requesting traffic control assistance from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Street Department-barricades at the corner of 4th and Benton and 4th and Downer for street closure to be delivered on August 11th and picked up on August 14th.
CIS is working directly with APD on event details.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed assistance be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
