PURPOSE:
A Traffic Study for Hammond Avenue between Illinois Avenue and Florida Avenue to check vehicle speeds.
BACKGROUND:
A Resident submitted ACR Case ID 116878 expressing concerns about traffic speeds in front of their residence on Hammond Avenue and requested an additional speed imit sign.
DISCUSSION:
Hammond Avenue is classified as a Residential roadway and has a posted Speed Limit of 25mph. It has a standard width of 29.5-ft. It is the only through North-South roadway from Illinois Avenue to Florida Avenue between Pennsylvania Avenue and N. Highland Avenue.
A Vehicle Speed Study revealed an Average speed of 28 to 29 mph, with a Mode Speed of 25 mph, and an 85th Percentile Speed of 38 mph. Staff is concerned with the exceptionally high 85th percentile speed. Additional speed limit signs will be placed but this area needs to be monitored.
This information will be forwarded to APD.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Operations will be required to install recommended signage.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends two additional speed limit signs(placement to be coordinated with the Traffic Engineeer.
