A Resolution authorizing the appointments of LaTanya Reme and Mary Fultz to the African American Heritage Advisory Board.


PURPOSE:

BACKGROUND:
N/A.

DISCUSSION:
In June of 2021, the City Council approved changes to Chapter 2, which included a sunset provision for all board/commission members. The sunset was included to bring the board/commission terms into compliance with the new dates provided in the ordinance, as well as survey members if they wished to continue to serve or step down.

The nominations brought forth today represent two new members.

LaTanya Reme is a resident of the seventh ward and seeking a first term.

Mary Fultz is a resident of the third ward and seeking a first term.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the appointments of Latanya Reme and Mary Fultz to the African American Heritage Advisory Board.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, Chapter 2 of the Code of Ordinances provides that the Mayor, shall, with the approval of the City Council, appoint the members of the advisory boards and commissions of the City; and
