SUBJECT:title

A Parking Study for Spruce Street near West High.  Ward 4, Alderman Donnell.

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study for the north side of Spruce Street near West High, between Commonwealth Avenue and Fordham Avenue.

BACKGROUND:

APD and School District 129 made a request to install No Stopping, Standing or Parking signage, on the north side of Spruce Street, in the block nearest to West High.

DISCUSSION:

Our field study did affirm the need for No Stopping, Standing or Parking signs to be placed along the north side of Spruce St, during school session. Mix of pick-up/drop-off vehicles, pedestrians and student vehicles entering/leaving adjacent parking lots cause traffic congestion and limit sight lines between vehicles and pedestrians.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Operations would be responsible for installing and maintaining the parking restriction signage.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Staff recommends installing “No Stopping, Standing or Parking, During School Session” signs on the north side of Spruce Street, between Commonwealth Avenue and Fordham Avenue.  The signage could be placed on two existing utility poles on the block closet to West High, and replace the existing sign on the utility pole at the northwest corner of the Spruce-Fordham intersection.
