A Parking Study for 837 Columbia Street. Ward 2, Alderman Garza.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for 837 Columbia Street to better accommodate ride service pick-up/drop-off for special needs resident.
BACKGROUND:
Resident of 837 Columbia Street submitted handicap parking application, seeking improved accommodations to access ride service pick-up and drop-off. Upon follow-up, resident expressed a parking restriction, in front of the house, would be preferred rather than a handicap parking space, since resident no longer drives and has a ride service.
DISCUSSION:
Columbia Street is a residential roadway, 30 feet in width, on-street parking allowed on both sides of the street and 25 MPH speed limit. The 837 Columbia Street parcel is narrow, approximately 50 feet wide with a single lane driveway. Therefore, a parking restriction across the entire frontage of 837 Columbia would be best for a ride service vehicle to gain curb side access. This would eliminate legal parking for one large vehicle or two compact vehicles in front of the home.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Street Department & APD resources.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends installing a NO PARKING, BETWEEN DRIVEWAYS (833 & 837 Columbia driveways) sign with double head arrow, located in front of the 837 Columbia Street home. Also, recommend random, selective APD enforcement of the no parking restriction.
