body

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the proposed event is to raise money for the National Athletic Training Association (NATA) Education and Research Foundation.

BACKGROUND:

For three years the event was held on Kane County Forest Preserve property and rain would result in less than favorable running-walking conditions on water soaked sand trails.  In 2015, Aurora University held it for the first time on streets surrounding the campus.  Aurora University is proposing to hold it again in 2016 using the same route it used in 2015.  In 2015, streets were not closed to traffic and Police Officers held traffic at intersections long enough for runners-walkers to pass safely.

DISCUSSION:

Aurora University is responsible for all costs associated with holding this proposed event.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Services will be needed from the Aurora Police Department Traffic Control Division to allow runners-walkers to safely cross street intersections, and from the Street Maintenance Division to post no parking signs on the north side of Marseillaise Place across from the football stadium to the corner of Marseillaise and Western.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
