SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study for the intersection of Barrington Drive E and Hillsboro Blvd to consider the possibility of four-way STOP signage. - Ward 9, Alderman Bugg
body
PURPOSE:
The traffic study will determine the appropriateness of converting a two way stop to an all way stop at the intersection of Barrington Drive and Hillsboro Drive.
BACKGROUND:
A resident expressed a desire to install additional stop signs at Hillsboro Drive and Barrington Drive due to visibility issues created by the entry way sign and landscaping.
DISCUSSION:
This particular intersection has been reviewed multiple times over the last few years. Additional pedestrian crossing signs were installed in 2012. The average daily traffic for Barrington Drive was 3900 veh/day at an 85th speed of 27 MPH while the average daily traffic for Hillsboro was 980 veh/day also at an 85th speed of 27 MPH. There is not a significant crash history that would cause a concern.
The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices recommends a minimum eight hourly volumes for the minor street of 300 to be considered for an all way stop. The total in the peak hour for the minor street is less than 140 vehicles. There is a stipulation for installation of a stop sign at an approach with limited visibility but the approach with the limited visibility already has stop control.
There is a limited visibility issue on one of the approaches it is the recommendation of staff the pine trees by the monument sign be removed. This issue will be exasperated over time.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact based on recommendation
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends HOA consider removing pine trees at monument sign.
