SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study for W. Benton St. between W. Downer Pl. and S. Lake St. to determine need for SPEED LIMIT signage and appropriate TWO-WAY STREET signage on W. Benton St.
Ward 4, Alderman Donnell
Ward 6, Alderman Saville
body
PURPOSE:
To determine the need for extra Speed Limit signage and/or extra Two-Way Traffic signage on W. Benton St. between W. Downer Pl. and S. Lake St.

BACKGROUND:
A resident sent ACR Case ID 79481 expressing concern over speed and Two-Way Traffic signage for the above street.

DISCUSSION:
Traffic counters have been set out to measure the traffic volumes and their speeds.

Based on the traffic study, neither the traffic volumes nor crash history warrant the installation of extra signage.

Traffic volumes in either direction are not equal, showing approximately 725 veh/day West-Bound and 1,770 veh/day East-Bound.  Speeds West-Bound were higher at about 30 mph 85th percentile, while speeds East-Bound down the hill were lower at about 27 mph 85th percentile.  The average speeds were 25 mph and 22 mph respectively.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact based on staff recommendation.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends no action.
