A Resolution Authorizing the Appointment of Javan Cross as Fire Marshal for the City of Aurora, Illinois.
PURPOSE:
To obtain City Council approval of the appointment of Javan Cross to the position of Fire Marshal for the Aurora Fire Department.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the promotion of Gary Krienitz to the position of Fire Chief, a vacancy exist for the position of Fire Marshal.
DISCUSSION:
The new Fire Chief has recommended that Javan Cross be promoted to the position of Fire Marshal. The decision is based on Jovan's eighteen (18) years of progressive experience with the Fire Department where he has demonstrated competency and dedication in all of the numerous roles he has functioned in.
A copy of his resume is attached for your review.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request this item be forwarded to the City Council for approval.

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and
WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and
WHEREAS, a vacancy exists in the position of Fire Marshal by reason of the promotion of the former Fire Marshal; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor finds and determines that Javan Cross meets and exceeds all of the necessary qualifications and requisite skills and experience to perform the job requirements of the position; and
