TO: Mayor Thomas J. Weisner
FROM: Eric J. Gallt, City Traffic Engineer
DATE: October 15, 2013
SUBJECT: title
A Traffic Study on the north side of Weston Avenue to review the existing one-side-of-the-street parking restrictions. Ward 3, Alderman Mesiacos
body
PURPOSE:
To evaluate parking restrictions on Weston Avenue in the vicinity of the 400 block.
BACKGROUND:
A concerned resident submitted an E-mail to the Alderman's Office requesting the lifting of one-side-of-the-street parking restrictions on the 400 block of Weston Avenue. Going back as far as 2007, no installation record of one-side-only parking could be found.
DISCUSSION:
Weston has a roadway width of 29.5 ft. Not every home on Weston has a driveway, although both sides have an alley behind them with garage parking. Streets of similar width and traffic in the surrounding area both allow parking on both sides and are restricted on one side. Since a request was made to restrict parking in the past and City ordinance states that any roadway under 30-feet in width can be restricted by request, any changes should be done by petition.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
No Action at this time
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends no action at this time until a neighborhood petition is submitted by the residents of the 400 block of Weston.
