The City of Aurora is requesting approval to stage the Veterans Day Procession and Ceremony on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 10:15 am.

PURPOSE:
This is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended World War I.  We as a nation thank all our current and past military on this day.   The City of Aurora honors them with a procession and ceremony.  
 
BACKGROUND:
This is a long standing tradition in the community and has approximately 500-700 in attendance.   
 
DISCUSSION:
The event is budgeted from Special Events account #101-1341-450.53-10.
Staging begins at 9:15 on Benton between Broadway and Stolp.  Step off is at 10:15 at Benton and Broadway, proceeds north to Downer, west on Downer ending at the G.A.R.  All participants then gather in from the G.A.R. for a ceremony which includes a guest speaker and rifle salute.  The ceremony concludes at approximately 11:15.  
 
 
IMPACT STATEMENT:
Requesting the following City services and street closures:
Street Closures: Benton from Stolp to Broadway, 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
Broadway for the duration of the parade only, 10:15 to approximately 10:30.
Downer from Stolp to Broadway 9:45 to approximately 11:45 am. 
Street Department: Placement of barricades per attached maps and spreadsheet.
Electrical: Access to exterior power at the G.A.R.
MVPS: Q Lot gates open.  Stolp Island Parking Deck free from 8:00 am to Noon.  
APD and EMA: Assist with street closures, lead and end squads and any necessary security measures as deemed necessary. 
 
 
RECOMMENDATIONS:
 I request the proposed event be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
