body
PURPOSE:
This annual event unites the citizens of Aurora in celebration of our countries independence.

BACKGROUND:
This is the City's largest event and is coordinated through the Special Events Division.  It was moved back to the downtown last year to coincide with the opening of RiverEdge Park and was highly successful, bringing in tens of thousands to the downtown area. To alleviate traffic and parking issues the City coordinates seven shuttle bus routes throughout the community.  Programming will take place at two locations, McCullough Park and RiverEdge Park, with ACCA coordinating all activities at RiverEdge Park.  Fireworks are shot from Veterans Island, south of Illinois Ave.  An IGA is in place with the FVPD for the use of both properties.

DISCUSSION:
The event is budgeted for in account 101-1341-450.53-01.  Expenses include fireworks, shuttle busses, signage, print materials, marketing, staging needs and entertainment fees.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
City departments and divisions are meeting on a regular basis to work out the logistics and services necessary to fully implement this event.  Detailed lists will go out to each department/division well in advance as well as a reminder a week to ten days in advance.
Support from the following departments/divisions is requested: APD, AFD, Fire Prevention, EMA, Public Information, Streets, Electrical, Property Standards, Parks, Water & Sewer, MVPS and Downtown Maintenance.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
I request the proposed event be approved and forwarded to the Government Operations Committee.
