SUBJECT:
A resolution to award a contract to Superior Excavating Company, Inc. of P.O. Box 575, Channahon, IL 60410 for the Sperry Ct. Utility Improvements project in the amount of $183,146.00.

PURPOSE:
Sperry Ct. currently has an old combined sewer running through private property. City engineering staff recommend installing a separate storm sewer to improve local drainage and reduce sanitary sewer loading. The proposed storm sewer connection to the storm sewer along South Ave. is part of the Long Term Control Plan efforts to reduce combined sewer overflows in the City of Aurora.

BACKGROUND:
The resident at 423 Sperry Ct. has been suffering basement seepage due to poor drainage of the existing system. The existing combined sewer drains across his property without a formal easement. In addition, there is a storm sewer along South Ave. that would allow for the future removal of this area from the combined sewer system. This meets the City of Aurora's objectives specified in the Long Term Control Plan addressing combined sewer overflows. Installing a new storm sewer, repairing the existing combined sewer, securing a permanent easement, and separating storm and sanitary sewer flows are in the best interests of the City and its residents. Plans were issued for bid and seven (7) qualified contractors submitted bids.

DISCUSSION:
Improvements along Sperry Ct. will improve local drainage conditions, secure permanent utility easements, facilitate separation of a combined sewer, and meet Long Term Control Plan objectives for the City's combined sewer overflow program. The lowest responsible bid was selected for the project.

This project has funds available in project B031 account 281-1856-512-7309 and project IB18 account 510-4063-511-7314.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
Residents along the storm sewer corridor should expect improved drainage and the ability to i...
