SUBJECT:
A resolution to accept the quote from Pro-Tech, 1313 West Bagley road, Berea, Ohio 44017 to purchase 150 complete sets of Personal Protective Equipment for the Aurora Police Department, recommended to the Finance Committee on August 13, 2020.

Police Officers are trained to respond to all types of incidents within the community, this also includes demonstrations and protests. Historically, demonstrations held within the City of Aurora have been peaceful and conducted without incident. Nevertheless, police officers have to train and be equipped to respond.

The Aurora Police Department currently has approximately 50 sets of protective gear and 307 sworn officers.
DISCUSSION:
The protective gear will offer a higher level of protection to any of our police officers who have to respond to a violent protest or demonstration. The equipment would be utilized for officer protection at most demonstrations, peaceful or otherwise. Demonstrations are dynamic, organic events, the goal is to provide our personnel with the equipment they need to be prepared at all times.
The funds needed to make this purchase are recommended to be used from the SHAPE fund, which is normally used for vehicles and capital equipment. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, we have deferred a large portion of vehicle purchases, including police vehicles, and therefore sufficient f...
