SUBJECT:
An Ordinance amending Chapter 27 of the City of Aurora Ordinances Entitled "Motor Vehicles and Traffic."

PURPOSE:
The proposed amendment seeks to prevent stopping, standing and parking in front of mailboxes and interfering with mail delivery.

BACKGROUND:
There has been a history of complaints made by residents that they are not getting their mail delivered due vehicles parking too close to their mailboxes and interfering with mail delivery.

DISCUSSION:
This proposed amendment to the Ordinance is meant to address resident concerns that they are not getting postal delivery because vehicles are obstructing their mailboxes.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
This amendment to the Ordinance should have a positive impact on the residents of the City of Aurora.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the Chapter 27 amendments be forwarded to Committee of the Whole

WHEREAS, the City of Aurora has a population of more than 25,000 persons and is, therefore, a home rule unit under subsection (a) of Section 6 of Article VII of the Illinois Constitution of 1970; and

WHEREAS, subject to said Section, a home rule unit may exercise any power and perform any function pertaining to its government and affairs for the protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the Citizens of Aurora to amend Chapter 27 of the City's Code of Ordinances in order to allow residents to receive their mail.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Aurora, Illinois, as follows: That Chapter 27 is hereby amended to:
