PURPOSE:
Lifespring and Urban Youth Ministry of Wayside Cross Ministries is requesting approval to hold its annual Walk a Mile in My Shoes event to promote awareness of homelessness and raise money for Lifespring and Urban Youth Ministries.
BACKGROUND:
This proposed event has been held for the past 10 years using several different buildings as a base and several different routes. The past several years, the Harkness Center on Fourth Street has been the base of operations and the same route has been used, as is being proposed this year. Approximately 150 people participate in 2015.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed event includes expectations of approximately 200 people participating and 20 staff/volunteers helping. Most of the activities and time spent will occur inside the Harkness Center, with the exception of the walk. The walk will take place on sidewalks and participants will adhere to pedestrian rules crossing a street corners.
IMPACT STATEMENT:
City services will not be needed for this proposed event.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please forward to the Government Operations Committee for approval.
