The Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board is requesting permission to stage the annual Fiestas Patrias parade in downtown Aurora on Sunday, September 13, 2015.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of Fiestas Patrias is to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.  This is accomplished with a downtown parade and one day festival at RiverEdge Park. 

 

BACKGROUND:

This is the 6th continuous year Fiestas Patrias has been held in Aurora and the first year the AHHAB has coordinated the event.  The parade will step off at 11:00 am from Benton and River Streets. The parade will utilize the approved Memorial Day route with the reviewing stand located in front of the DLP Art & History Center.  The units will stage along River Street from Benton to Gale. 

 

DISCUSSION:

Parade organizers are responsible for distributing the Street Closure Notice to all affected businesses along the route and posting it in the elevator and hallways of multi-tenant buildings. Also the installation and removal of the no parking signs along the route.  A detailed listing of organizer responsibilities is included at the end of the attached services request.

 

All expenses are budgeted out of account number 215-1341-450.50-57.

 

IMPACT STATEMENT:

Support from the following City Departments and Divisions is requested: APD, Streets, MVPS, Electrical, Water & Sewer, Downtown Maintenance and Special Events.  A detailed list of services requested is included as an attachment.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

 I request the proposed parade be forwarded to the Government Operations Committee for review and approval.
