A Parking Study for S. Randall Road in the 500 and 600 blocks.  Wards 4 and 5, Aldermen Donnell and Franco.

PURPOSE:

A Parking Study for S. Randall Road in the 500 and 600 blocks (between Prairie Street and Sundown Dive) to determine the need for more parking restrictions and signage.

BACKGROUND:

A Resident submitted PS # 2769050 requesting parking on Randall Road in the 500 and 600 blocks to be more restricted than it is presently.

DISCUSSION:

S. Randall Road just south of Prairie Street is a narrow street, approximately 18' to 19' in width.  Although students are careful to park only the west side next to the fence, and never on the "lawn" or "fire hydrant” eastern side, the roadway is still narrow (see photo, Looking North on Randall.pdf).   S. Randall Road has no sidewalks, and no curb and gutter in the 500 block.

Regular observations during the past year have failed to notice any vehicles parking on the east side of S. Randall Road from Prairie Street to Ridgeway Avenue (the 500 blocks of S. Randall Road).  South of Ridgeway Avenue (in the 600 block) the roadway widens to a narrow 20'.  The line of parked vehicles for Aurora University generally do not extend south of Ridgeway Avenue.

By restricting parking on both sides of S. Randall Road, Aurora University students would most likely move to nearby residential streets to park.

IMPACT STATEMENT:

No impact at this time.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Continue to observe parking patterns to check whether vehicles are parking on both sides of the narrow roadway.  Discuss additional on-campus parking development with Aurora University.
