SUBJECT:title
A Parking Study for an on-street Handicap parking space in front of 1132 Front Street.  Ward 2, Alderman Garza.
body
PURPOSE:
A Parking Study for consideration of an on-street Handicap parking space in front of 1132 Front Street.

BACKGROUND:
A resident submitted PS # 2930446 requesting a Handicap parking space at 1132 Front Street.  Resident stated that they currently have a Handicap placard, and that parking is scarce on Front Street.

DISCUSSION:
Front Street is an extra wide 36-ft, and is classified as a Major Collector.  Parking is allowed on both sides.  The requested parking space to converted to a Handicap space is in front of 1132 Front Street, measuring about 23-ft long bordered by two drive approaches.  Vehicles may not park within 5-ft of a drive approach, so that leaves about 13-ft of available curb.  A standard parking space requires 20-ft of unrestricted curb.

The driveway for 1132 Front Street connects to a sizable asphalt parking pad in the rear of the house with parking for several cars.

IMPACT STATEMENT:
No action at this time.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends not placing a Handicap space in front of 1132 Front Street because the available curb length is not adequate.  Also, appears there is parking available in the rear of the house.
